The surprising college degree that Nvidia CEO confessed he would study now: it’s not computer science

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is one of the hottest people of the moment, and while it’s true that Nvidia’s bubble has burst due to the emergence of Chinese AI startup DeepSeek, the truth is that the microchip company still has the potential to become the largest technology company in the world.

Much of the company’s success depends on its ability, and especially on its leaders’ ability, to recognize the trends and needs of the future. Today, Nvidia has a virtual monopoly when it comes to the chips that power today’s technology.

For this reason, Huang’s vision of what is to come is worth listening to, and that is why we are recovering his intervention during the last World Government Summit with the Minister of Artificial Intelligence of the United Arab Emirates (the country where this forum is held) where he was asked why children should learn or rather study for the future.

His answer surprised many because it contradicted what has been recommended to children for years.

He began by saying,

In the last decade, almost every speaker who has taken to this stage has emphasized that it is important for children to learn computer science, to know how to program,

Huang explained,

However, the current situation is almost the opposite: our job is to create computing technology so that no one needs to program,

The reason, as the CEO points out, is that AI is gradually taking over jobs that were previously done by humans, and programming is one of these tasks in which this technology is most advanced.

Huang said, when asked what advice he would give young people on what career to pursue,

Now everyone, all over the world, can be a programmer. This is the miracle of AI,

“I would realize one thing: one of the most complex fields of science is understanding biology.”

The tycoon concluded,

If I had the chance to start over now, I would find that the technology that turns life sciences into ‘biological engineering’ is already here, and that digital biology will be a field of engineering, not just a field of science: I hope this will be the beginning of a whole generation that enjoys working with proteins, chemicals, enzymes and materials,
